We have been covering Movl's steady rise since late 2010.
From their original expansion internationally, after winning Samsung's "Free the TV Challenge in 2010, to unleasing the WeDraw app on Samsung platform, covering their expansion with WeDraw to Google TV, to them taking on Apple Airplay long before DIAL is trying to with Swipeit. When MOVL was invited to Google TV's own Sandbox to unveil their new product with their latest... Kontrol TV, backed to the tune of half a million by legendary investor Mark Cuban himself - who also spread money around the space investing in Flingo as well (and whose take I have opined in the past when his opinion was slightly different than today).
A MOVL spokesperson confirmed the acquisition when contacted by GigaOM, sending over the following statement:
“In April 2013, two years after inception, MOVL has officially joined forces with Samsung. We are now a part of Samsung Electronics, and we are excited to combine our multi-screen capabilities with Samsung’s scale and innovation in its device ecosystem.”
The company has a staff of nine, all of which have joined Samsung, with plans to relocate all Georgia-based employees to San Francisco.
