Fanatix has today launched the first ever social TV iPad app dedicated entirely to live sport. Despite live sport proving to be at the forefront of the growth and popularity of social TV, debate amongst fans has been fragmented across multiple platforms including phones, instant messaging and social media.
The new fanatix iPad app changes that, and delivers a natural home for conversation around sport. The unique fanatix group messenger allows users to automatically identify what their friends and other fans are watching and connects them together. In addition, it aggregates and filters Twitter feeds and sports stats so that the user has relevant companion content for whatever game they are watching.
Founder and CEO of fanatix, Will Muirhead said:
"The appetite for second screen engagement amongst sports fans is enormous. Out of the 111 million US fans that tuned in to this year"s Super Bowl, 98 million were using mobile or tablet apps during the game.
"Despite the social nature of sports, in reality, sports television can be an incredibly lonely experience, with some 70% of the UEFA Champions League audience watching alone. fanatix provides a platform for this audience to easily connect and watch together.
"We"re really excited that we"re able to offer fanatix to this hungry audience, especially with the feast of sporting action that is available over the coming months, including Euro 2012 and the Olympics. It"s going to be a seismic year for sport and the second screen."
