PHILO, the social television platform that is (re)inventing television by giving TV fans a new way to watch and interact with their favorite shows, announced today... a partnership with IGN Entertainment to host a series of interactive virtual viewing parties.  The partnership will go beyond the digital award offerings and give fans the chance to win physical prizes.

The first phase of the partnership will kick-off with a viewing party of “Futurama,” coinciding with the 100th episode and sixth season finale of the hit animated comedy.  The episode is set to air on Comedy Central at 7pm PST/10pm EST on Thursday, September 2nd.

Viewers that check-in to “The Mutants are Revolting” episode via the PHILO web and iPhone applications will interact with other viewers and a group of the biggest “Futurama” fans among IGN’s staff and editors.

Fans joining the conversation will automatically be entered to win a variety of offline prizes, including:

  • An XBOX 360 for one Grand Prize Winner
  • Five Bender Bobbleheads for second place winners
  • Exclusive PHILO swag for ten third place winners

In addition, a variety of virtual goods, such as the “Tricky Dick” award, referencing guest Ron Popeil, can be earned by tuning in on PHILO.

“We’re excited to partner with PHILO to offer the IGN community a way to interact in real-time with their favorite television shows,” said Chris Carle, Entertainment Editorial Director of IGN Entertainment. “This promotion is the first of many ways that Philo and IGN plan to reward online behavior with offline promotions,” added Eric Moro, Editor in Chief, IGN Movies, DVD & Blu-Ray.
