Monterosa is entering into a strategic partnership with social-TV start-up zeebox that will give broadcasters, producers and brands early access to Monterosa's new second-screen service, allowing them to create and deploy richer, interactive viewing experiences.
The announcement was made today by Tom McDonnell, co-founder of Monterosa, which recently won the 2012 Broadcasting Press Guild Innovation Award for Channel 4 and Endemol’s Million Pound Drop social-TV play-along game.
The new self-service Monterosa product offers selected third parties an easy way to involve TV audiences through zeebox and their own websites or mobile apps simultaneously. It also offers robust scalability of Monterosa’s ‘2-Screen Cloud Services’ — used by many UK broadcasters, including Channel 4, ITV and UKTV — and adds an easy-to-use web-based control centre for producers. The first invitation-only release of the product will be integrated into zeebox’s ‘Showtime’ tools, adding live audience polling to a rapidly growing suite of interactions that broadcasters, programme-makers and brands can use to augment live TV.
Tom McDonnell, commercial director of Monterosa, said:
"zeebox and Monterosa are both pioneering forces in social and second-screen television. The combination of Monterosa's expertise in highly content-specific interaction and zeebox's capabilities and audience is a potent one. We believe this is an industry-defining step."Simon Miller, chief of product and content development for zeebox, added:
"This platform partnership brings Monterosa’s renowned technological and creative expertise to zeebox, offering incredible potential to deliver a next generation of synchronous interactions around live TV.”
