The definitive documentary about the legendary musician Bob Marley opened in theaters and simultaneously on Facebook, iTunes and VOD on April 20. "MARLEY" has been a big success across all distribution platforms including its Facebook premiere receiving more than 80,000 user-generated social impressions in the first week of the movie's launch and has resulted in the biggest Facebook streaming numbers ever for a feature film. On iTunes, "MARLEY" has the highest grossing week ever for a Magnolia release. By popular demand, Ziggy Marley will be participating in an exclusive live Celebrity Cinema chat on Facebook on May 19 at 5:30 p.m. PT/8:30 p.m. ET when he will interact with viewers to discuss his father's life and music as they watch the film together. The live Celebrity Cinema chat will be available at apps.facebook.com/ziggylive
Not only was the movie the first U.S. film to ever be made available for streaming on Facebook(R) the same day as its theatrical release, but now Milyoni's Celebrity Cinema technology will provide fans with a shared, social viewing experience with a member of the Marley family, unique to the Facebook streaming experience. Fans can view the movie, chat with friends, comment, share and tag favorite clips all from the Bob Marley Facebook page.
"It's going to be like sitting with friends watching a movie -- the only difference is that I am intimately connected to the subject," said Executive Producer Ziggy Marley. "I expect a lot of interaction. It's going to be great fun -- I am looking forward to it."
The PG-13 film continues to be available to stream online at www.facebook.com/bobmarley for $6.99 via PayPal or by credit card. A portion of the proceeds from the film's Facebook sales benefit the charity organization Save the Children. Made with the unprecedented support of the Marley family, "MARLEY" is the first film to tell the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary and legend -- from his earliest days to his rise to international superstardom. Along with an incredible soundtrack, the film features rare footage, archival photos, incredible performances and interviews with Bob's family, friends and band mates.
Directed by Academy Award(R)-winner Kevin Macdonald ("One Day in September," "The Last King of Scotland," etc.), "MARLEY" is produced by Steve Bing (Shangri-La Entertainment) and Charles Steel, and executive produced by Ziggy Marley and Island Records' founder Chris Blackwell. The Wagner/Cuban Company's Magnolia Pictures acquired the U.S. rights to "MARLEY" and is making the film available in theaters and through all digital platforms and cable VOD services.
