The app economy is large, active and thriving, with nearly half of the U.S. population using mobile apps. With hundreds of thousands of apps in the hands of consumers, Variety is presenting the First Annual Entertainment App Awards to recognize the best apps in the entertainment industry, selected by industry stakeholders, publishers, academics, tech journalists and more. The Entertainment App Award categories and judging criteria were chosen to reward and recognize innovation and excellence within the entertainment app industry. Winners will receive recognition at the Awards Dinner on November 29.

Variety is an American weekly entertainment-trade magazine founded in New York City, in 1905 by Sime Silverman. With the rise of the importance of the motion-picture industry, Daily Variety, a daily edition based in Los Angeles, was founded by Silverman in 1933.
