USA getting ready for 'The Money Drop'...!
Following on from the success of the 'Million Pound Drop', which we wrote about a few weeks ago here Million Pound Drop - proving the dual screen experience?, the format has now been snapped up by US terrestrial broadcaster Fox. They have agreed a deal with Endemol to produce and run a pilot in a few months time via their US team.Is this a positive trend towards more dual screen experiences?
What is great about this deal, is that it not only opens up the opportunity for the US version of the the UK couch potato to enjoy the experience we have enjoyed, it will also give us a rare opportunity to measure and compare the relative engagement with these new dual screen broadcast experiences that are being commissioned and the comparative appetite for them both in the US and the UK.
This does assume that they actually decide to put budget behind running the online and social aspects that [in the UK], helped make the UK version the success it was (ok Davina McCall, Fox getting a hostess (or host) with the mostest does help with the ratings! ;)...however, will they?
And will this mean an opportunity for the interactive agencies involved in creating the dual screen experience such as Monterosa Productions to dip a foot into the US market?
Or will Fox and Endemol see this as an opportunity to create a single [integrated] experience on the big screen?
Time will tell...
The US version is to going to be called The Money Drop, and we very much look forward to seeing what the appetite is like from our couch potato cousins from across the big pond!
In the meantime, we have heard rumours that a French version is already in production, and so in the meantime, you can watch arguably the best winner from the UK version on YouTube
