Ericsson will launch multi-screen TV solution at IBC
More news on Ericsson is reported by Videonet, announcing that Ericsson will launch its commercial multi-screen TV offering.
The multi-screen solution is said to incorporate the full features of IPTV, mobile TV and Web TV.
Giles
Wilson, Head of Technology, Solution Area TV at Ericsson, said:
“We are seeing a significant move away from consumers just viewing on the television to viewing on multiple devices. It is not a move from one to another but a move from just one device to many.
“Delivering to multiple screens is not enough in itself. You have to create combined services across multiple devices.
Screens are used in different scenarios and it is important to the consumer to have a unified experience across those devices. That includes a unified user interface with a common look-and-feel but that is not enough either.
“There has to be a common experience so session-shifting – the ability to pause video on one device and continue on another – is important, for example. The focus is on delivering to multiple screens, platforms and networks in a cost-effective way.”
What will Ericsson be highlighting at IBC?
* The Video Processor Chassis (VPC), a high density and
multi-functional video processing platform that includes encoding and
transcoding.
* 3DTV compression capabilities both for the contribution and direct-to-home segments.
* The MDN (Media Distribution Network), a complete solution for the delivery of video over
IP which combines a Content Distribution Network (CDN) with the
company’s broader TV portfolio “to deliver a media centric solution to
the growing amount of video on the Internet”.
The MDN is being launched at the IBC show.
Information on Ericsson at IBC can be found here, including booth number.
