Samsung to Offer €500,000 Euro in Cash and Prizes with a European TV Application Contest

In order to celebrate the recent release of a fresh Samsung TV Application software development kit (SDK) for its line of Smart and Connected TV line and Blu-Ray devices, Samsung TV are ponying up over half a million euro (€500,000) in cash and prizes for the individuals or teams that develop the best looking, most brilliantly conceived, and most functional TV and Blueray applications. Third party developers, many of whom are expected to jump over from Mobile and the web (the technology and code are similar will not only have the opportunity to reach millions of people through their television sets, they can compete for cash and prizes. 

With its Samsung Apps line of televisions and Blu-ray devices, which can download, install, and run apps natively, Samsung Apps is built into all Samsung 2010 Blu-ray players, Blu-ray Home Theatre Systems, and the majority of TVs 40 inches and larger in the 2010 line.

Following the first successful contest in Korea, then the USA (which is still in action),  Samsung has made the move to Europe to entice 3rd party app and widget developers to tap into their creative space and innovation to build for the emerging Smart TV landscape.

They will also be presenting an event similar to the San Jose based "Free the TV Developer Day Conference" held earlier this month in the USA. Frankfurt, London and Paris are slated to host three separate conferences for developers in the near future.
