Virgin Media today announced a deal with NBC Universal International Television Distribution for the video-on-demand rights in the UK to a broad selection of NBC Universal series. Under the terms of the agreement, these titles will be offered as new content across Virgin Media’s three entertainment platforms; TV, online and mobile. From the 1st December Virgin Media customers will be able to access past seasons of great shows such as House, Heroes, The Office (U.S.) and 30 Rock, whether in HD at home through its TV On Demand service or via its online and mobile ‘Virgin Media Player’ services.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media said:
“Our pioneering TV On Demand service continues to offer the greatest choice for all the family and we’re delighted to bring our customers these great shows in HD from NBC Universal. With more and more consumers enjoying the flexibility of watching TV whenever they want, our new online and mobile services also give our customers a fantastic way to enjoy content wherever they are.”
Earlier this year Virgin Media launched its online and mobile players as part of its multi-screen strategy and is continuing to explore innovative new ways to deliver TV content using the combined power of its fibre optic based broadband network, its cutting edge TV On Demand service and through video-capable handsets on its award-winning mobile service. With over 4,600 hours of TV, film and music, with hundreds of hours in HDTV.
