Google TV Ads to be shown to Verizon FiOS subscribers
Verizon is going to boost Google TV Ads by serving them to its 3.3 million Verizon FiOS TV subscribers. Google's TV Ads will appear on live TV across 50 channels, including AMC, ESPN and Fox News as reported by TechCrunch. This deal will help extend Google's reach to 35 million households by early next year.
Google TV Ads is an ad marketplace that looks like what cable operators are trying to build through Canoe Ventures. CED: "The entry level for advertisers is incredibly low – as little as $20 a spot, Google TV Ads says on its website – but the issue appears to be lack of inventory and partners' unwillingness to sell ad spots for cheap."
This is in line with TechCrunch reports on the $ matter:
But don’t expect any cable partnerships to be announced anytime soon. The cable companies want to implement their own targeted advertising and not be beholden to Google. The satellite and phone companies are trying to take share away from the cable companies, so they are more open to trying new technologies. If Google can prove that its ads are more effective, as it is trying to do through a partnership with TV audience measurement firm Nielsen, then maybe it can give its TV partners a leg up.
