NTT DoCoMo To Launch Tablet, Aims To Challenge The iPad

DoCoMoReuters reports that "Japan's top mobile operator, NTT DoCoMo, is looking to launch a tablet computer that will be produced by LG Electronics and run on software developed by Google, the Nikkei business daily reported on Saturday."

The tablet is expected to have a smaller 9-inch screen and is scheduled to be released in Japan by the end of March. Further details have yet to be determined.

Yahoo! News further elaborates:

DoCoMo will marry the new Google-backed Android operating system with a device made by South Korea's LG Electronics to launch the product in Japan by the end of March, the Nikkei business daily said, without naming sources.

Users will be able to get on the Internet via DoCoMo's cellular connections, it said, adding pricing and other details were yet to be decided.

Google is expected to release a tablet-friendly operating system worldwide in early this year.
