WorldTV Aiming for HD and App Bridges for Crossover to Broadcast TV
Techcrunch Europe is reporting... that Ireland-based WorldTV is
currently exploring joint ventures with set top box (STB) manufacturers,
over-the-top systems (OTB) (e.g. Boxee) and connected TV platforms like
Yahoo! to try and enter the emerging TV-web convergence space.
"...thus fueled WorldTV which they think will come good as apps and the Internet start to overlay traditional TV. WorldTV is currently exploring joint ventures with set top box manufacturers, over-the-top systems (e.g. Boxee) and connected TV platforms like Yahoo! to try and enter the TV set."
With the new features you can now rapidly build a TV channel out of YouTube HD video clips and broadcast it on WorldTV.com, or, through their new embeddable player, according to their blog.
How do they play against other players in the space? The Google Adsense on the main site is a bit of a turnoff (considering they are touting bootstrapping with deep pockets) - and there does not seem to be any mobile integration... It's gone over huge in Brazil's oddball but huge market - which is interesting, as the Brazilians are also strangely fanatical about Google Orkut (pre Google Wave, Google Buzz etc.)
The new interface is slick, clean and easy-to-use. I like it. Well done guys. How they get this on my big screen in the living room and make it work comfortably via a remote will be a challenge - and one that Clicker is probably doing better with using HTML 5 and easy arrow navigation. It's still going to be some time before we see advanced remotes with keypads making the living room. Using mobile to bypass that is always an option of course.
