TV Gadget of the Week: Vuzix' Wrap Eyewear
The future of social TV and interactive video products will not only be innovated through social networking sites or on-demand options on your set-top boxes. Each week we will take a look at a consumer electronic that is changing the way we consume TV and enabling emerging digital platforms to expand. For the first we we take a look at Vuzix's (VUZI) Wrap Eyewear.
Remember when Marty McFly traveled to 2015 in Back to the Future 2 and video goggles and augmented reality were part of Hill Valley's digital lives?
Vuzix, a technology company (who's primary revenue used to be defense technologies) based in Rochester, New York is on it's way to revolutionizing mobile video, video, gaming and augmented reality with their "Video Eyewear" product.
Today, mostly the uber-Geeks are enjoying their video with these glasses, but the company is poised to grow their consumer product.
I sat down with Paul Travers, CEO of Vuzix, at the Kaufman Brothers Investors Conference in New York City. I demoed the 930 Eyewear Model and saw the impressive 3D and Augmented Reality features that seriously allow you to view your video as if you were sitting in your home theatre.
Here's an in-dept interview with Paul on how Vuzix products connection with social applications and augmented reality, how the products are selling in global markets, how they designed the Eyewear to mimic a home theatre experience and the company's plans for the future.
