TechCrunch Disrupt: Exclusive Interview with Yaniv Solnik Co-Founder, Bee.TV
While
the main news out of TechCrunch Disrupt was their acquisition by AOL,
there was a major win for a startup entertainment company that went
unnoticed. Bee.TV spent
three years developing their web, iPhone and soon to be iPad television
recommendation app.
Their pitch: with so many hundreds of channels, TV
is not usable anymore to find what you want to watch. By creating an
interactive multimedia rich dashboard, (pulling in weekly show trailers,
etc.) that recommends what your provider is currently airing, they may
have not only solved the problem of making TV usable again, but also the
quagmire of pleasing the cable giants.
After presenting at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco their iPhone
app was downloaded 12,000 times and was ranked seventh in the iTunes App Store
entertainment category.
Yaniv Solnik Co-Founder and CTO discusses their new iPhone apps, his plans to work with set-top boxes and cable providers and why he doesn't believe in "checking-in" to television.
