ABC, teamed with data from Nielson, released an iPad TV App in mid-September that synchronizes one of their latest TV shows called  My Generation  to provide real time content on the tablet device. Sounds  simple? Here's the caveat. It's smarter than you think.

By listening to the audio coming out of the TV, this innovative iPad app with a little aid from Nielson is able to identify where the viewer is within the time line of each episode and provide additional content in order to augment the TV experience via a tablet. Behind the scenes and interactive media, and presumably advertising in some form are pushed from the cloud to the iPad simultaneously to the viewer watching the program.

This deal between Nielsen and ABC show that broadcasters are reaching into the tech toolkit and creating new partnerships in order to make TV more interesting in an emerging era of multitasking during multi-screen experience.
