Second Life, Treet.tv and the Future of TV

The technology that provides us TV content is definitely changing (Apple TV, Google TV, etc.) and so too is the content itself. Second Life, the virtual world created by Linded Labs in 2003 is now a vibrant global community (826,214 Monthly Unique Users) that
still scares many who fear the converging world of real life
interaction in a video game format (I am now one day old on Second
Life). Second Life recently grew their economy in Q1 2010 to an all new
real US Dollar high. "User-to-User Transactions totaled US$160 million, a 30% increase year-to-year and an all-time high," their blog reported.
Treet.tv is on the front line of providing an online video network for virtual world programming. Established in 2007 the site uses , "collaborative
production model which has resulted in more than 3000 hours of
broadcast quality content, all targeting the emerging phenomenon of
virtual living." All of their shows are broadcast live and then made
available online and on iTunes as they try to offer advertisers unique
marketing opportunities in their active Second Life viewers.
Treet.tv's shows range from business-focused talk shows like Metanomics, that look at the different business models in virtual worlds to live virtual music shows, like Live N Kickin that bring you live music infused with Second Life's fantastical venues. All the shows are pretty unique and pretty active.
As a result of the great work Appmarket.tv is doing I was invited to be a contestant on the 100th epsiode of The 1st Question, a 50's style game quiz show that webcasted live last night from 10-11pm EST on Tree.tv. Pooky Amsterdam, the host and creator of the show built a production company the produces commercial work in Second Life. She creates avatars and turns them into actors and actresses to create futuristic commercials for brands. Live Machinima programming as this style of content creation is referred to, will be coming to an Apple TV, Google TV or simply regular TV screen near you, very soon. Here's the video of the game show where my avatar, Natan Pinelli, won second place.
