NMA is reporting that former YouView chief technology officer Anthony Rose told publishers, while speaking at the Association of Online Publishers Forum: VoD and the Rise of Web-connected TV last week, they must start putting their content onto connected TVs "before it's too late".

"In this matter, you can't be too early, if you wait too long, all the good territory will have been staked out and taken," added Rose.

And he's abolutely right.

We at Appmarket.tv have been culling data and studies for months that absolutely prove that Connected TV is going to be a game changer and publishers (and brands, producers, broadcasters and indy media) better start developing TV Apps if they want traction. There are less than a few hundred apps on the busiest app store at Samsung, never mind LG, Philips/Sharp/Loewe, Google TV Apps, etc. Compare that to coming late in the market and competing with thousands or hundreds of thousands like iPhone, Android or other inundated smart phone app stores. It's Blue Ocean still.

As Rose noted, TV and device manufacturers are starting to act like the "commanding chiefs" and the gatekeepers for watching catch-up TV on the big screen - and we agree. They are the new content curators that will reduce scarcity and democratise the content industry, in addition to creating disruption on a massive scale. Remember the music industry and the labels?

More from NMA:

Sam Kayum, UK MD of video ad network Smartclip said total VOD revenues are expected to top £100m in the UK this year, up from £60m last year. The number of interactive campaigns, such as Microsoft's Kinnect ad, will "double" to 10% in 2011, according to Kayum.

Interesting times ahead for indy producers and app developers to make the move to the big screen in the living room. Transmedia projects, VOD apps with social media integration and recommendation engines... the future looks bright!
